Kink 2025 Downside BMX Bike - Hazy Purple
The Kink Downside is specifically designed for riding street and features many of the high end components from the Kink Downside along with the addition of Kink 'Williams' 13 butted signature handlebars, a Kink Highrise CNC stem, Kink Imprint CNC aluminium sprocket and much more.
What parts are on the Downside BMX bike?
The Kink Downside BMX bike features a 100% 4130 Chromoly frame making it both lighter and stronger than an equivalent BMX frame made from High Tensile Steel frame. The forks are the Kink Trident which are 100% Chromoly and feature tapered legs and are connected with a Mission sealed integrated headset.
This 20" BMX bike has many high end components including a Mission Bond sealed rear cassette. This combined with the Mission Bond sealed Female front hub are both laced onto Mission Mylar double walled rims with 36 spokes. These are running on Kink Wake 2.45" wide tyres with a low profile wrap around tread that is ideal for street riding.
The Kink Ridge tubular BMX cranks are made from Chromoly and are 165mm long. These are shorter than the cranks on other bikes in the Kink BMX range, it's widely assumed that shorter cranks enable you to rotate the bike faster making spins into and out of grinds and other tricks feel easier. These have a 19mm diameter, 8 splined spindle and sealed Mid sized bottom bracket bearings ensuring your ride is maintenance free. Completing the drive chain is a Mission Locator 25 tooth aluminum sprocket and Kink Hemlock pedals.
Up top there's Kink Form flangeless grips on 9" rise Kink Willams' signature 9.5" rise, 13 butted 4 piece Chromoly bars which are clamped to a Kink Bold HRD top load stem. The Mission Token brake lever connects to the Mission Cease V2 rear brake via a Mission L4 Linear cable to give you good stopping power.
The Kink Downside is fitted with a Kink Impression Stealth Pivotal seat and Mission aluminium seat post seat post. This is a premium seat made with a debossed triangle pattern and featuring a Kink sew on tag in yellow.
What age is the Kink Downside 20 inch suitable for?
We would recommend this bike for riders that are 166cm/5'5" or taller. Based on UK data this would typically be for an adult or a child the ages of 14 years and older. This is only an approximate guide and you may find riders that are slightly shorter or taller can competently ride this bike.
What type of BMX riding is the Kink Downside suitable for?
This Kink Downside BMX bike is designed specifically for street riding, however it will still perform well in other terrains such as ramps, dirt, concrete/wooden parks and pump tracks.
What else should I know before buying a Kink Downside BMX?
The Kink Downside BMX frame has removable brake mounts, this means if you're running it brakeless like many street riders do then you won't have brake lugs on the frame that could easily get caught on your clothing or shoes. This also gives the bike a cleaner aesthetic and if you decide to run brakes everything is included to fit both the front and rear brakes.
The Kink Downside is fitted with a freecoaster hub as opposed to a regular cassette style hub. If you're not familiar with a freecoaster hub it differs from a freecoaster in that when the bike is rolling backwards the cranks don't rotate backwards but rather remain stationary. This is the preferred style of hub of many of the world's top professional street riders as it makes a lot of backwards rolling tricks easier. It's also worth noting that when you pedal forwards you will notice a 'gap' where the cranks move before engaging the rear hub. If you haven't ridden a freecoaster hub before this gap may take some time to get used to.
This bike will require some basic assembly prior to riding which will include putting the handlebars in the stem, fitting the front wheel, pedals, pegs and seat post. The minimum tools you will require are: 15mm spanner, 17mm deep socket (for the pegs), 5mm and 6mm Allen keys.
