Kink BMX

Who owns Kink bikes?

Kink BMX was started in 1994 by owner Zack Phillips then just 16 years old. Zack had issues with breaking axles so working directly with a local machine shop in New York they created the heat treated kink axle as their first product.

Where are Kink bikes from?

Kink BMX is based in Rochester, New York in the USA. Their bikes and parts are made in Taiwan. Their bikes and parts are distributed to over 30 countries worldwide.

Kink BMX offers a wide range of products, including complete bikes, frames, forks, handlebars, stems, cranks, pedals, sprockets, wheels, tires, and more. They have products suitable for riders of all skill levels and preferences, from beginner-friendly bikes to pro-level components.

Their range of complete BMX bikes starts with 12” balance bikes all the way through to pro level, in addition to larger 26” wheel cruisers. They have an extensive after market range of parts including signature frames such as the Williams Frame, from pro rider Nathan Williams. They make the popular Backwoods frame which is a trails bmx frame designed for dirt jumping. A model like the Kink curb bmx bike is ideal for a new rider getting into BMX. Their mid level bikes such as the Kink Launch BMX bike and the Kink Gap BMX are extremely popular. The Kink Gap FC features a freecoaster hub popular with street riders.

They have a large BMX pro team including Nathan Williams, Anthony Perrin, Travis Hughes, Jacob Cable, Calvin Kosovich and Hobie Doan. In the UK they have Ben Basford, Pete Jones, and Casson Downing.

They have released a huge amount of full length videos highlighting their BMX pro team. Videos released so far are Wasted Days (2002), Cheap Thrills (2004), Safety First (2008), Jetlagged (2010), Squash it (2013), and their latest video is Champagne (2019).

Are Kink bikes any good?

Kink bikes make excellent bikes and after market parts. As brands get bigger it’s understandable to worry whether they compromise on quality but the principal behind Kink BMX and its products is still the same as when it started: ‘Make something better’. To them it means designing, developing and standing behind products that they truly believe in. At Backyard BMX we only sell products from brands we know are great quality.

Kink BMX developed their own post-weld heat treating process that they call Trutherm. It was developed over several years and is used on aftermarket BMX forks, handlebars and cranks and is backed by their Kink BMX warranty which provides a 2 year warranty against breaks and cracks or any material defects or workmanship defects.
